Concrete Canoe Races

The ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition provides civil engineering students an opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience and leadership skills by working with concrete mix designs and project management. Teams will be responsible for the design and construction of their canoe. Teams will also be responsible for submitting a technical paper complimentary of their canoe design. The deadline for the technical paper is March 1st. Deepsouth’s Concrete Canoe races will be held at LeFleurs Bluff State Park in Jackson, MS. The winner of Deepsouth’s concrete canoe races will advance on to ASCE’s National Concrete Canoe Competition.

Sustainable Solutions Competition
Tactical Urbanism Challenge

The Sustainable Solutions Competition challenges student teams to design and fabricate structures based on real world issues facing the civil engineering community. Through this intercollegiate competition, students gain awareness of important issues in engineering practice which supplement their classroom education. In addition, they gain practical experience in structural and sustainable design, aesthetics, construction cost analysis, safety, teamwork, leadership, and project management. Successful teams in this competition must emulate the following core values: sustainability, leadership & teamwork, safety, and ethics.

Blue Sky Contest
Smart Mobility for Smart Cities: Transforming the Way We Live

This year the Blue Sky Competition theme is Smart Mobility for Smart Cities: Transforming the Way We Live. The competition will identify visionary solutions to address engineering challenges in the area of transportation and development. Teams are expected to be approached as a student-led effort and may include interdisciplinary collaborations. The use of advanced technologies, including those from disciplines outside of engineering such as digital design tools and virtual representations are welcome to illustrate the proposed ideas via these deliverables.
